install - GitHub Boxen Error -

i'm not biggest user of github , when seek , install new "boxen" (https://github.com/boxen/our-boxen) i'm having issues.

the readme.md has instructions , i'm getting error when running

git checkout -b master upstream/master

any ideas? created local repo if that's difference, or need create 1 on github?

error message:

fatal: operation must run in work tree
